First and foremost to create a gratitude list you need to know what gratitude is! Gratitude is not only an expression of thanks but it is a mood, a personality trait and an emotion. Here are the differences:

GRATITUDE and MOOD: Gratitude puts the mind in a certain condition. Those who are able to show gratitude and admit to being grateful for things have a tendency to stay in a happy state.

GRATITUDE and PERSONALITY: Being grateful is a choice. Not every person’s personality can maintain gratitude.

GRATITUDE and EMOTION: A person feels gratitude through emotion. The emotion they feel is happiness.


Now, let’s get onto creating your gratitude list.

A gratitude list or gratitude journal documents all the things that make you grateful each and every day. It could be little things like finding matching socks (since the dryer keeps eating them) or big things like receiving a promotion at work! But here is how it works:

STEP 1: Get a Journal and dedicate it to cataloging the things you are grateful for

STEP 2: Write down what makes you grateful. Be creative. Use illustrations. This journal is for you so put your feelings of happiness onto the page!

STEP 3: Write every day.

STEP 4: Revisit your memories of being grateful by reading your journal.
